The Sheffield Lake Fire Department was established in 1929. While the main function of the department is fire suppression activities, we have always been leaders in providing our residents with Emergency Medical Services.

In 1979 we were one of the first fire departments in Lorain County to provide paramedic services. It was at that time we increased our manning per shift from two to its current level of four.

The departments is staffed on a 24 hour a day basis with at least three firefighter/paramedics on duty at all times. The department has been able to provide our residents with a average response time of nearly four minutes when our assistance is needed. The department has the current manning levels in place:

1 Full Time Fire Chief/Paramedic
3 Full Tme Lieutenants/Paramedics
9 Full Time Firefighters/Paramedics
5 Part Time Firefighter/Paramedics
1 Part Time Firefighter/EMT-A

The departments also provides the following services:

Fire Prevention
Fire Scene Investigation
Fire Education in our schools
Free Smoke Detectors [to residents when available]
Free Smoke Detector Batteries [to residents when available]
