Below is an explanation of Refuse Collection Refuse/Garbage is not to be placed by the curb, not more than 12 hrs. prior to Friday pick up. Leaves should be put in clear or white bags (yard waste). Recycled item should be in blue bags or in a proper container set aside from the normal Garbage/Refuse as not to mix them up. The following information is provided to all City Refuse Customers on refuse collection in the City of Sheffield Lake. A.) Refuse should be placed in standard rubbish containers or plastic bags with a capacity no less than 20 gallons, but no more than 35 gallons, not to exceed 50 pounds in weight. Hedge cuttings, limbs and branches must be securely tied and not to exceed 4 feet on length and 50 lbs in weight. All furniture, household appliances, hot water tanks will be accepted. B.) Excluded items broken concrete, dirt, railroad ties, large automotive parts, large amounts of building materials or refuse caused by repairs, alterations or new construction of buildings or sidewalks, and refuse not placed in proper containers, bags or bundles. Refrigerator, freezer and air conditioners are excluded unless the refrigerant has been removed by a certified technician and the appliance has been labeled to indicate the removal has been preformed. Without certified documentation, BFI will place a sticker on these appliances notifying the resident to contact their office for proper disposal options. Their suggestion will be to contact an appliance service/repair man for removal of the refrigerant.
