Meet the Finance Director

Mitchell J. Fallis, took the Oath of Office of Finance Director for the City of Sheffield Lake, Ohio on January 2, 2024. Fallis brings a strong combination of private-and public-sector experience, having served in executive financial positions in the banking industry for two decades coupled with public-sector service as a Council-at-large official in Lorain for 12 years and a Lorain Board of Education member for 4 years.

The Finance Department is responsible for administering general accounting services for the City of Sheffield Lake. This includes revenue projections, budgeting, financial reporting and assisting the Mayor and City Council, as they prepare the City’s budget.

In addition to assisting with the City’s budget, the Department also controls payroll and pension processing, personnel records and accounts payable and accounts receivable for the city.

Auditor of State Awards

The Ohio Auditor has recognized the City with an award of distinction for its clean, accurate audits since the inception of the award in 2011.

Garage Sale Permits

Homeowners are permitted to hold up to two garage or yard sales on their property per calendar year. They must obtain a permit each time they hold a garage sale. Permit numbers can be obtained by phone or by visiting the Finance Office at City Hall. Sales can last no longer than three days. Signs to promote the sale must contain the permit number and be no larger than 28” by 36.” Signs must be posted on a stake on private property. They cannot be nailed or stapled to utility poles. Solicitation Permits

Anyone wishing to solicit residents for businesses purposes must register. Upon registration, a permit letter will be given to a solicitor and it should be carried at all times so resident can easily identify individuals from properly registered organizations. Residents should not hesitate to ask a solicitor to see his or her city-issued letter.
