Sheffield Lake is a small, well-established community of residences and small businesses on the shores of beautiful Lake Erie and close enough to Cleveland to be near phenomenal entertainment, sports and cultural activities.

The city of some 9,000 residents offers desirable amenities including a public beach, boat launch, walking trails, bike path and ten parks each with unique features including a dog park, skate park, soccer fields, basketball courts, playgrounds, memorial gardens, pavilions, benches, picnic tables and grills.

Our Joyce Hanks Community Center, with spectacular views of the lake and sunsets, offers indoor and outdoor gathering places and is home to a number of senior-focused programs and a meeting site for many local clubs and organizations. Water and sewer services are provided by the city. Phone Sheffield Lake Utility Department: 440-949-6259 to initiate service. Once an account is created, you may mail your bill, pay online through this website or drop off payment at the service department’s drive-thru window weekdays from 8 a.m.-4 p.m. 4750 Richelieu Ave. (next to city hall).

In the past eight years, the city has obtained grant funds and invested its own financial resources to rebuild and strengthen the infrastructure providing water and removing storm and wastewater, This investment has steadily decreased the number of flooded streets and basements resulting from increasingly frequent, heavy rains.


Republic Services provides residential curbside garbage and recycling collection in Sheffield Lake.

Regular garbage and recycle items are collected on Tuesdays except when there is a a major holiday on Monday and then your garbage and recycling items will be collected on Wednesday.

From April to December 1, Republic collects yard waste in brown recycle bags or in cans clearly marked ‘yard waste.’

Bulk items are picked up once a month. See dates below and items eligible for bulk pick up service.
