Summer Crisis Program 2026

Seniors (60+) or those with a documented medical necessity can contact the Lorain County Community Action Agency to apply for Summer Crisis assistance, which includes air conditioning units or box fan distributions based on availability.

To qualify for help, households must be living at or below 175% of the Federal Poverty Line ($57,750 for a family of four in 2026). They must also meet one of the following criteria:  

• At least one household member is age 60 or over. 
• A household member has a documented medical condition worsened by extreme heat. 
• Their electric service has been disconnected or they have received a disconnect notice. 
• They are trying to establish new service. 

Maximum benefits for Summer Crisis are:

• $500 for regulated utilities
• $800 for unregulated utilities
• $1,500 for central air conditioning repairs
