Kids’ summer arts program begins June12
Children ages six to 11 who have completed kindergarten through grade 5, accompanied by a parent or caregiver, can develop their artistic skills this summer. The city’s popular Summer Arts program is back for a seventh year and runs on Mondays, from 1-2:30 p.m. beginning June 12 and ending July 24. There will be no class on July 3. Classes meet at Joyce Hanks Community Center, 575 Lake Road.
Deborah Suarez, a retired elementary school teacher and project leader, said some of the fun projects kids will create include night lights from glass jars and twinkle lights; clay projects using three different methods; and painting self portraits on canvas.
Sheffield Lake police and fire departments will be present on the last day of class to talk with kids about their duties. They will be presented thank you notes kids create.
The program culminates, as always, with an art show featuring the creations of each child. It will be the evening of July 24, Suarez said.
