Pet grooming salon comes to Sheffield Lake

A lifelong love of pets, furry and feathered, drove the creation of Sheffield Lake’s newest business – Roo’s Purrfect Paws, a pet grooming salon, at 5388 Lake Road.

Owner Adrianna Mihalak bubbles with enthusiasm as she describes her work with more than 100 clients who have visited her business since it opened Nov. 2. The majority of clients have been dogs of all sizes, but she has also trimmed feathers, beaks and feet of birds, bathed and groomed cats and trimmed several pet bunnies. She is a one-woman show but shows no signs of slowing despite working 10-12 hour days in order to serve a growing client list.

When she’s not grooming, she’s promoting her business on numerous social media platforms, saying the effort has brought new clients to her door.

Mihalak grew up with pets – a Mastiff named Mia and mini Pinscher named Calypso. She also frequently tagged along to work with her mom who was employed at a pet store. Over the years, she watched and learned. By the time she was in high school, she worked at a pet store. She learned how to properly bathe an animal, then learned the basics of grooming, helping her mom and working with another groomer who had a home-based business.

However, Mihalak wanted to learn even more so she dove into online training videos to help expand her knowledge about how to groom specific breeds.

She is also just two classes shy of earning an associate degree in business from Lorain County Community College, something she pursued because she wanted to establish her own business.

The long days, and a seven-day-a-week schedule, that includes thoroughly cleaning her shop as each clent leaves, and at the end of every day, is all part of what she expected as owner of a grooming salon.

“I love my job and there’s not one day I regret opening my own place,” she said.

At the end of her work day, she returns home to two young female Mastiffs – Bella and Gigi. She also thinks about a future and, not surpisingly, it is optimistic. As the business grows, she hopes to hire more groomers. She also dreams of opening a second shop once the Sheffield Lake salon is well established.
