Sheffield Lake native joins police force

Officer Buddy Sivert has had a really busy first month on the Sheffield Lake Police Department. Born and raised in the city, a graduate of Brookside High School, Sivert spent four years in the Air Force before landing a job with Lorain Police Department in 1992.

During a 29 year career there, he spent time in patrol, SWAT, the canine unit and detective bureau. He made Sargeant in 2005. He most recently worked nearly two years as an investigator for the Lorain County Prosecutor’s Office. Sivert had wanted to be a police officer as a kid, and when Sheffield Lake posted notice for officers earlier this year, he applied because he still wanted to be a policeman, and, perhapes more importantly, wanted to work “in a community I care about.”

With his wealth of experience came some suggestions for how the department could strengthen ties to the community. One idea was to use an app called Neighbor, run by Ring, the company known for video doorbells and other home and business security devices. It is now up and running (see story Neighborhood Safety Program for details on how to participate.) Meantime, Sivert is happy renewing old acquaintances as he patrols the city’s streets, and making new ones, too.
