Sheffield Lake & Village Mobility Plan

Welcome to the Sheffield & Sheffield Lake Mobility Plan. Our communities thrive when everyone can get around safely and comfortably. This Mobility Plan is our official roadmap to improving active transportation—or “people-powered movement”—across the City of Sheffield Lake and the Village of Sheffield.

Not Just for Kids—Mobility for All Ages and Abilities While creating safe routes to school for our youth is a major priority, this plan is designed for all citizens. Whether you are a daily commuter, a family enjoying a weekend bike ride, an senior citizen running errands, or a resident with limited mobility relying on a wheelchair or mobility aid, this plan envisions a network of safe, accessible, and connected routes for you.

Our goal is to ensure that traversing our city is safe and comfortable for anyone choosing people-powered movement over driving.

Leveraging Expert Resources for Our Community To make this plan a reality, we aggressively pursued and were awarded a highly competitive grant valued at $125,000. Rather than a direct cash award, this funding was provided in the form of dedicated technical assistance. This allowed the City to partner with a top-tier consulting team who brought industry-leading expertise in traffic safety, urban design, and active transportation planning right to our doorstep.

Built By the Community, For the Community This plan wasn’t created behind closed doors; it was shaped by the people who use our streets every day. The development process included:

Community Input: Gathering direct feedback from residents about the intersections, sidewalks, and corridors where they feel most vulnerable.

Steering Committee: Collaborating with a dedicated group of local representatives, school officials, and stakeholders from both Sheffield Lake and Sheffield Village.

Data Analysis: Working with our consulting team to study traffic patterns, crash data, and existing infrastructure to identify the most critical areas for improvement.

Unlocking Future Funding The completion of this Mobility Plan is not the end of the process—it is the beginning of our action phase.

The documents below serve as our official deliverable. More importantly, they provide the vital evidence and strategic guidelines required to pursue major state and federal grants. Because we now have a community-informed, data-backed plan in place, Sheffield Lake is in a powerful position to win funding for:

Infrastructure Improvements: Repairing sidewalks, installing high-visibility crosswalks, and building new trails.

Community Programming: Launching initiatives like Walk and Roll to School days, youth bike safety camps, and community-wide safety education.

We invite you to explore the findings, recommendations, and future vision for our community.
